Frequently Asked Questions

Communities & Roles
Campus communities are for universities and colleges. Circle communities revolve around shared hobbies, interests, or topics.
Roles highlight your status within each community, such as "Verified Student" and "Verified Alumni". Each user can only have one role per community, whether it's a Campus or Circle community.
Community moderators handle verification. Check each community's page for their specific verification process, which might involve student email verification or other criteria.
Creating & Managing Content
Toggle "Post Anonymously" or "Reply Anonymously" when creating content. Your username won't appear, but any verification badge remains visible to maintain trust.
You can delete your posts and replies anytime. Editing isn't available yet. Anonymous posts and replies can't be deleted since they aren't linked to your account.
A repost shares a post or reply with your followers exactly as it is, with credit to the original author. A quote wraps it in a new post of your own, so you can add your take on top. A quote with nothing added simply becomes a repost. Reposts and quotes always carry your name and can't be made anonymously. Everything you've reposted is collected in the Reposts tab on your profile.
Up to six photos or GIFs, in any mix. Links you include unfurl into a preview card, and you can pinch any image in the feed with two fingers to take a closer look.
Type @ while writing and pick a person from the suggestions. Mentions link to the person's profile, and they'll be notified.
Direct Messages
Private-by-default conversations that disappear: right after viewing, or after 24 hours (the default), 48 hours, or 7 days. There is no save-forever option.
Messaging someone for the first time sends a request, and you can send up to three messages until they accept. Only people who accept can keep messaging you. If you decline a request, its messages are deleted and the sender isn't told.
While a message exists, our systems can technically access it. In practice, message content is only ever looked at when a participant reports a conversation. Every message is deleted from our servers by a timer the database itself enforces, at most 15 days after sending and usually much sooner. End-to-end encryption, which removes even the technical ability, is committed and in development.
They are deleted from our servers on the timer you chose, and your devices stop showing them at the same moment. But the person you message can still screenshot or photograph the screen, and we have no way to detect or prevent that. Don't send anything you wouldn't want kept.
No. There is no archive, no export, and no way to get a conversation back after it expires, for you or for us.
No. A sent message disappears for both of you on its timer, and there is no way to take it back sooner. Check the recipient before you send.
Yes. New messages reach all your signed-in devices. Don't rely on any device holding history: messages disappear everywhere on the same timer.
Report from the conversation. Reporting preserves the reported messages for our moderation team even if their timer runs out afterward, and that is the only path by which message content ever reaches human review. Reported evidence is kept for 90 days.
What exists at that moment: any not-yet-expired messages and media (a window of at most 15 days), report snapshots (up to 90 days), contact-request state, and delivery metadata. Nothing expired can be produced by anyone, including us: we keep no backups of message data, deliberately. When end-to-end encryption ships, unexpired content leaves this list too.
Privacy & Safety
Yes. Your identity is only used to validate the submission and check for policy violations, but it's never stored with the content. Once posted, no one (including our team) can link anonymous posts or replies back to you.
New follow requests need your approval. Your profile's posts, replies, reposts and follower lists are hidden from people who don't follow you. Posts you share to a community and replies in public threads stay visible to everyone, and you can always post anonymously when you want your name off something. You can switch between private and public anytime in Edit Profile.
Yes. Going private controls who can browse your profile, not where you can take part. You can post, reply, repost, and quote everywhere, and that content stays visible in communities and public threads whether or not someone follows you.
- Tap ··· on any post or reply
- Select "Report"
- Choose the appropriate violation category
- Add any detail (optional)
Yes! You can block users from their profile. Here's what happens when you block someone:
- Their posts won't appear in your feed
- Their replies will be grouped under "hidden replies" in threads you view
- You won't receive notifications from them (likes, replies, mentions)
- They won't be able to follow you
- Any existing follows between you will be removed
- They won't know they've been blocked
You can unblock users anytime from their profile or Settings → Blocked.
